Our New Peace Silk Square Scarves are truly special.
Yes, they are beautiful but they are more than just a pretty piece of fabric. Much more.
Let's start at the beginning with how the raw silk is collected. With regular silk, the silkworm cocoon is boiled with the live worm inside. With the peace silk (also called Ahimsa Silk) that we use, the silkworm is allowed to naturally leave the cocoon as a moth and only then is the silk of the cocoon harvested. The fibres of the discarded cocoon are spun into thread and then woven into cloth.
This slow, gentle, cruelty-free process can be found in small, rural communities across India, where local farmers, spinners, and weavers rely on this craft for their livelihood.
The prepared peace silk is then brought to Jaipur to be hand block-printed by artisans using hand-carved blocks and nontoxic, eco-friendly dyes.
And at the core of each block-printed design is a vulnerable or endangered species such as the prairie dog, blackbuck, staghorn coral, and wild dog. With each purchase, we make a sizable contribution to an environmental organization focused on the survival of that species and its habitat.
So as I hope you can see, our new Peace Silk Square Scarves really are something special. Each of these beauties is a masterpiece of ingenuity, design, and respect for the natural world and tradition. Whether you (or a lucky loved one) wears one of our scarves around the neck, draped over the shoulders, or tied through belt loops, we believe you will see and feel all of the effort, love, and passion that went into its creation.
Thank you for reading and caring about the magic behind Beastly.
