Prairie Dogs are considered a keystone species because of the large direct and indirect impact they have on the ecosystem in which they reside. For example, prairie dog tunnels provide homes for many amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Sadly, prairie dog numbers have been reduced by as much as 95% due to disease and human "pest management."
